ACT adheres to “industry standards” with regards to mold assessment and remediation practices. In general, industry standards include EPA-issued references, references issued by the New York City Department of Health (NYCDOH), and other publications by various indoor air quality and industrial hygiene professional associations and organizations. ACT also relies on years of experience with indoor air quality work, including biological (fungi and bacteria) assessments and remediation projects conducted in commercial buildings and hospitals.

For mold remediation of building interiors, the current industry standard includes:
  • The removal of all mold growth from the building, which typically involves the removal of non-salvageable water damaged/mold contaminated porous surfaces (for example, sheetrock walls and carpet), and the removal of mold from the surfaces of non-porous and/or salvageable components (for example, metal, wood structural members and concrete).
  • Guideline protocol includes negative air pressurization containment of the work areas with HEPA air filtration to control mold spore dispersion unavoidably caused by remediation activity; qualified personnel equipped with PPE (personal protective equipment); surface cleaning practices; and disposal practices.
ACT may perform air sampling and testing at the conclusion of a project to demonstrate that acceptable air quality conditions have been returned to the building.

For any mold contaminated building, the cause of the moisture problem must be identified and corrected. Typically, plumbing failures, flooding, leaks and other obvious causes can be readily identified and corrected. ACT has the expertise to assist with understanding the likely causes if associated with compromised vapor barriers, inadequate humidity control and/or HVAC operation dynamics.

ACT has the expertise and experience to perform full mold assessment and remediation services, on a turnkey basis, or on an as-needed basis. ACT carries full Professional Environmental Liability insurance including Mold-Specific insurance coverage.
