Custom Air Handling Units

ACT offers custom air handlers manufactured by Flanders Air Seal (Division of Flanders Filters, Inc.). ACT also offers ACT “Field built” air handlers that can be assembled “on site” and tested to factory performance standards. Both our factory and field units offer .5% maximum casing leakage, L/240 deflection at 12” wg, +/- pressure and total design flexibility. The major considerations for custom air handler design and selection are follows:

  • Space requirements-temperature, humidity and air purity
  • AHU location- indoor or outdoor
  • AHU type-One piece, Modular or Field built
  • CFM capacity
  • Pressure requirement
  • Component arrangement
  • Materials of construction
  • Thermal break
  • Foot print
  • Level of filtration and purification

The major categories of factory built custom units are:

  • Uni Seal air handlers: Inverted panel construction with double wall casing panels. Low cost, low & medium pressure (1-8” wg)
  • Panel Seal air handlers: Seam welded tubular steel infrastructure frame with removable double wall casing panels. Moderate cost, medium to high pressure (5-10” wg)
  • Thermal Seal air handlers: The next generation “no through metal” thermal break air handlers. Moderate cost, medium to high pressure (5-10” wg)

The major categories of field built custom units are:

  • Standard galvanized 2 or 4 inch thick double wall casings.
  • Foam filled 2 or 3 inch thick double wall casings.
  • Foam filled 3 inch thick “no through metal” thermal break double wall casing panels.

Typical Air handling unit components include:

  • Factory Casing Options: Uni Seal, Panel Seal or Thermal Seal casing construction.
  • Casing material options: galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum or painted.
  • Access Door Options: aluminum , galvanized, stainless steel or painted.
  • Blower Options: Class I, II, III, and IV. DWDI, Plenum, SWSI, tubular, mixed air or Vane Axle.
  • Motor Options: OPD or TEFC, standard or premium efficiency, explosion proof.
  • Air Flow Station Options: Grid type, Ebtron or fan inlet pieziometer.
  • Damper Options: Opposed blade, parallel blade, low leakage, high pressure.
  • Cooling Coil Options: Stainless steel casings, copper or aluminum fin, heavy tube and fin construction, Sentry Guard freeze proof.
  • Heating Coil Options: Steam distributing, vertical or horizontal, face and bypass, hot water.
  • Humidification Options: Standard steam manifold, clean stream and atomizing.
  • Filtration Options: multi stage ASHRAE or HEPA filters, gas and odor control, Strion Aire capture kill low pressure drop.
  • UV Light Options: Standard UVDI or high intensity.
  • High pressure design to 30” wg.
  • Other options available upon request.

The major considerations for custom air handler design and selection are follows:

  • Type-One piece, modular or field built
  • CFM capacity
  • Pressure requirement
  • Component arrangement
