Ventilation System Captures Lead Contaminants

An indoor gun range facility was concerned about customer and employees exposure to lead. Lead dust, given off when lead bullets are fired, can be inhaled or ingested. Unsafe exposure can cause nausea and fatigue, organ damage and mental impairment, with increased risks to pregnant women and child or small adults. The range’s existing ventilation system did not meet safety standards as it could not properly remove the lead contaminants from the air.

ACT designed and engineered a new ventilation system. The new system included HEPA filtration, heat recovery, high-efficiency blowers and in line particle counters to ensure compliancy. The system noticable improved indoor air quality and exceeded NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) standards. The owner was delighted to reduce the exposure to lead in the air and on surfaces at the range.
